17th century Italian school oil on canvas of The Crucifixion, fictionally set against a backdrop of Gothic castles and architecture, with a skull to the base of the crucifix.

The painting is in extremely distressed condition with paint losses, and in places the canvas is bare and see through. It is also loose in places from the stretcher. However it is so magically atmospheric that the obvious wear suffered over 4 centuries seems perfectly fitting as part of its slightly macabre charm.
