NAPOLEONIC PORTRAITS IN ORIGINAL FRAME
Exceptional period ormolu picture frame containing a pair of hand painted miniatures of Napoleon 1st and Empress Josephine by Jacques Louis David who was named Court painter in 1804 until the fall of Napoleon in 1815.
The frame is in untouched original condition with the fine green velvet of the mounting practically plush bare, and with considerable wear to the gilding, but complete.
It remains a rare piece of historical importance for the collector.
The miniatures having survived a lot better, being protected by their original slightly curved glass.
