PORTRAIT OF A YOUNG MAN

An antique French portrait of a young erudite, oil on canvas, circa 1810.

I do love the way the portrait is positioned on the stretcher.
However it is of course a fragment from a larger work, and this can be seen from the back where the canvas has been folded over (last photo)

it remains a cool antique portrait in its own right.
