A stunning Japanese Meiji period “vanitas” tobacco jar of carved boxwood representing a human skull entwined with a snake, and surmounted by a carved frog, being the Japanese symbol of good fortune associated with magical powers.

In good complete original condition. Slight rubbing to the frog and some losses to the interior of the lid as pictured.
